Antigua and Barbuda Invites International Observers for Upcoming General Elections

ST. JOHN, Antigua and Barbuda – 5th April, 2026………..,The Office of the Prime Minister wishes to inform the public that formal correspondence has been dispatched to key international and regional partners regarding the upcoming general elections in Antigua and Barbuda, following the dissolution of Parliament on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.

Prime Minister the Honourable Gaston Browne has written to the Secretary-General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM),  H.E. Ms. Carla Barnett; the Secretary-General of the Organization of American States, H.E. Mr. Albert Ramdin; and the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Secretariat, Hon Shirley Botchwey to formally notify them of the dissolution of Parliament and the Government’s intention to announce the date for general elections on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.

In his letters, the Prime Minister indicated that the Government of Antigua and Barbuda would welcome the presence of Electoral Observation Missions from these organizations, should they wish to deploy such missions to observe the electoral process. The Government has also confirmed that all customary facilities and courtesies accorded to previous electoral observation teams will be extended to any missions deployed for the upcoming elections.

The Government of Antigua and Barbuda remains committed to the democratic process and to ensuring that the general elections are conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, consistent with regional and international best practices.
